ROBERT MASSIE

Jose Arturo Escobedo, Sr. passed away Tuesday, November 18, 2025, in San Angelo, at the age of 59.

Mr. Escobedo was born April 15, 1966 in Acuna, Mexico to Rogelio and Imelda Escobedo. Jose was a lifelong resident of San Angelo. Jose was proud when he gained his United States Citizenship when he was 16.

Jose married Eva Cardenas on February 14, 2013 in San Angelo. For the past 10 years Jose worked for San Angelo ISD as a groundskeeper where he made life long friends who became family and also gained the nickname “Cowboy.”

Jose was raised Catholic and for the past 3 years he had been attending PaulAnn Church. Jose loved to barbecue at cook-offs with the “Smoke ‘Em If You Got ‘Em” group. Jose was an avid Dallas Cowboys fan, always watching the games. He had one rule, you could only come into his house to watch the game if you were wearing Cowboys attire.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Survivors include his wife, Eva Escobedo of the home; two daughters, Danielle Escobedo of San Angelo and Veronica Castro of Houston; three sons, Jose Escobedo, Jr., Michael Escobedo and wife Kay, and Freddy Castro all of San Angelo; 13 grandchildren, Anthony, Leylah, Lexus, Julian, Aliyah, Adelina, Christian, Giovanni, Cayleb, Xavier, Nathaniell, Mateo, Sophia; mother-in-law, Enedina Cardenas; a special cousin, Hector Escobedo; and a host of many other cousins and friends. The family would like to thank the staff at Shannon Medical Center; Dr. Kate Young; Hospice of San Angelo, especially nurse Elsa Longoria, for all the love and compassion they showed Jose.

Public viewing will be from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m., Thursday, November 20, 2025, at Robert Massie Funeral Home. Funeral Service will be at 2 p.m. Friday, November 21, 2025, at the Impact Building at PaulAnn Church with Rev. Kirt Dauphin, pastor, officiating. Burial will follow at Calvary Catholic Cemetery under the direction of Robert Massie Funeral Home.
