Last week, the Tom Green County Sheriff’s Office and the San Angelo Police Department co-hosted a 60-hour Basic SWAT Course to benefit local law enforcement.

Eight officers from both agencies participated, receiving instruction on medical integration, legal issues, and tactical entry techniques. The five-day course prepared participants for high-risk situations and emphasized teamwork, tactics, and legal knowledge.

Three members of the San Angelo Fire Department’s Tactical Medicine program also participated, supporting SWAT operations with emergency medical care.

This was the first time local Special Operations teams hosted a Basic SWAT Course together, saving both agencies travel costs and maximizing training budgets.

The program highlights the cooperation and growth among local public safety agencies, ensuring the Concho Valley has a well-trained response team. “When agencies train together, they respond better together,” said Sheriff Nick Hanna. “This course strengthens our partnership and ensures we’re ready for critical incidents.”
