One of the items the San Angelo City Council will consider next Tuesday is the purchase of a new ladder truck for downtown’s Central Fire Station.

Firefighting equipment of this magnitude does not come cheap, and we don’t want our firefighters using anything but the most reliable equipment, so the price tag of $2,351,312 is actually quite reasonable when you consider how much engineering and technology goes into one of these firetrucks.
To put it in perspective, the last one has been serving the city for 16 years, which works out to less than $150,000-per-year.

Fire Chief Patrick Brody is requesting authorization to purchase the new vehicle through H-GAC contract FS12-23 with Siddons-Martin Emergency Group in Denton for the purchase of a “100′ Pierce Enforcer Mid-Mount Aerial Platform” in the amount of $2,351,312.
Pierce Manufacturing is subsidiary of Oshkosh Corporation, based in Appleton, Wisconsin, which has operations in eight U.S. states and in Australia, Canada, China, France and Romania.
