The Children’s Advocacy Center of Greater West Texas is expanding its mission and reach as officials announced the opening of a satellite campus in Brownwood.
The Advocacy Center has been serving Tom Green County and the Concho Valley for 35 years, helping children and families affected by child abuse by offering a safe place for the next steps in their healing journey.
This is the organization’s first facility outside of Tom Green County, and the directors said this expansion aims to fill the gap in the Brown County area left after the Children’s Advocacy Center in Early closed in 2021.
CAC officials have since worked with local, regional, and state partners to be able to provide those services in Brownwood beginning Sept. 1.
Officials said the Brownwood center will operate as a comprehensive agency through several programs, including the Children’s Advocacy Center, to provide child advocacy services, including forensic interviews, family advocacy, and mental health resources in Brown and Coleman counties.
According to information from the Children’s Advocacy Center of Greater West Texas, the CAC model brings professionals from law enforcement, the Department of Family and Protective Services, district attorney offices, and medical and mental health providers together to support children in need, as they investigate child abuse and offer services for the child and their families.
