While most coverage of the San Angelo City Council meeting on May 19 was focused on the regulations for potential data center development, council also moved to amend the city’s zoning regulations to encourage more affordable housing, with a major gap in availability in sight.

Planning and Development Services Director Aaron Vannoy said the proposals were shaped by housing studies completed in 2019 and 2024 examining San Angelo’s housing supply, pricing trends and future needs.

The Continental Football League awarded its final Southern Division franchise to the San Angelo Sidewinders, completing an all-Texas lineup for the league’s inaugural 2026 season. The Sidewinders join the Texas Syndicate of Austin, the San Antonio Toros and the Tall City Black Gold of Midland in a regional division built around short travel distances and local rivalries. On Tuesday, City Council will consider approving the sole-source purchase of water meters from Core & Main, Inc. for $4,299,996; a purchase that would be funded through the water fund balance and would mark the final phase of San Angelo’s multiyear Neptune Water Meter Replacement Program. The Water Utilities Department is in its fourth year of the citywide meter replacement effort, which was designed in phases to manage costs and reduce impacts on annual operating capital.
