Attention theatre fans: Angelo Civic Theatre’s production of Rogers and Hammerstein’s Cinderella opens tonight: Friday, Sept. 4.
- Who: Angelo Civic Theatre
- What: Rogers and Hammerstein’s Cinderella
- When: Sept. 4 through 20, Friday and Saturdays at 7:30 p.m., and Sundays at 2 p.m.
- Where: 1936 Sherwood Way, San Angelo.
The production stars Kristin Capps in the lead role, who has a very pleasing voice. Reagan Oaks stars as the Prince; Omba Kipke as the King, Margaret Pfiel as the Queen, Barbara Coleman as the Stepmother, Delorah Latham as Portia, Hera Olson as Joy, and the lovely Trina Medellin Delgado plays the Fairy Godmother.
This production isn’t quite the same as Disney’s Cinderella. In typical fashion, Rogers and Hammerstein’s version has plenty of wry humor, double entendres, and dangerously catchy musical numbers. It was originally written as a teleplay for Julie Andrews (Mary Poppins and Sound of Music) and was watched by over 100 million when it was originally broadcast in 1957.
A great evening out for the family, as the play doesn’t run nearly as long as some of their other hits such as “Oklahoma.”
