The Tom Green County Commissioners Court convened for a few minutes to squeeze in their regular stated meeting on Tuesday, which included an update on area flood cleanup.

County Judge Lane Carter said it was a blessing the court had a brief agenda this morning in light of the weekend chaos, adding that on top of everything else, the county is busy conducting budget planning sessions for the coming year.

Carter said he talked with the Emergency Management Coordinator and City of San Angelo folks before the meeting and gave everyone a brief update on the debris management.

Carter clarified that the county is still working on a federal declaration of disaster, which has yet to be assessed, but the flooding disaster here is official on the local and state level.

“ISTAT assessments hopefully will be going on simultaneously with the City Fire Marshal,” he explained. “They’re going to be going door-to-door, and seeing which buildings are inhabitable, and now they are going to start marking the curb — instead of the building — they have been marking building with a big orange “X” but to save time, they’re marking the curbs instead.

“So, if you see those — do not go in — those have been deemed condemned.”

Carter also went over the City of San Angelo’s bulletin on debris organization, and told everybody that proper arrangement of electronics, building materials and other items speeds up the assessment process for FEMA personnel.

Judge Carter said a more comprehensive report will be forthcoming from officials during the San Angelo Chamber of Commerce luncheon slated for Wednesday.

Citywide Trash Update

The City of San Angelo issued the following bulletin on Monday:

To all residents

  • Set out trash on your regular collection day and leave out until picked up.
  • If you don’t have a bin, place trash in bags and set at curb.
  • Bulk and recycling services are suspended until further notice. Recycling bins may be used for trash until recycling services resume.
  • Visit sanangelo.gov/trash to view your collection calendar.

Landfill Access
The landfill will remain closed to the public until further notice.

Lost Your Trash Can?
Call 325-657-4323 to be added to the replacement bin list.
