Facing a worsening San Angelo Police staffing shortage, officers are working overtime to investigate recent violent crimes. During a news conference, Police Chief Travis Griffith said the department is doing its best to prevent future crime but needs more officers and staff.
Griffith says patrol officers are working mandatory overtime, and Investigators are also severely short-staffed and are working extra hours to finish cases. He emphasized the the entire department is being stretched thin.
Department officials believe that the City Council will increase funding for the department to help ease the shortage and ensure the safety of residents. In the meantime Griffith stated that they are deploying the maximum number of officers on the streets and collaborating with other local agencies.
He is inviting local citizens who are interested in serving to apply for officer positions with the San Angelo Police Department.
