San Angelo Mayor Tom Thompson released a statement regarding the decision of the voters in Single-Member District 3 to recall longtime representative Harry Thomas on Nov. 3.

Thompson’s statement reads:

“The constituents of Single-member District 3 voted to recall Councilman Harry Thomas. We respect the voters’ decision and the democratic process that ensures residents have a voice in their city government.

“Public service requires time, sacrifice and a willingness to make difficult decisions. I want to thank Harry for nearly a decade of dedicated service to his district and our entire community. I am grateful for his contributions and for the opportunity to have served alongside him.

“The City Council will determine the next steps for filling the position in compliance with state law. An update will be provided once those steps are determined.

“I want all residents to know that your concerns and needs remain priorities for the City Council. Thank you for participating in your government, and thank you, Harry, for your service to our community.“

– Mayor Tom Thompson”
