A year after the devastating July 4 floods in Texas, which were triggered locally by several billion gallons of rainfall in Northeast San Angelo, Concho Valley Together hosts “Resilience Rallies.” The local group hopes to commemorate the community effort, and to support those still affected. The group was formerly known as COAD (Community Organizations Active in Disaster). Rallies are being held in the parts of town most affected by the floods.
On their Facebook page, the group stated, “The disaster showed us the importance of knowing your neighbors and being able to rely on one another for help.”
On Thursday, July 9, the group set up at Harris Avenue Baptist Church, where they connected with neighborhood residents, serving free food, providing a bounce house for kids, and hosting music and several booths from community resource organizations.
On Friday, the organization will set up from 6 to 8 p.m. at the San Angelo Housing Authority offices on East 28th Street.
The group is also planning a Restore Event at Emmanuel Episcopal Church on Saturday from 11 a.m. until 3 p.m. That event will celebrate the strides the community has made since the flood.
