OUR NEIGHBORS
Men and women in recovery for substance use in the San Angelo area are discovering renewed hope and faith through two new group homes, where healing is taking place as they move toward a fulfilling life of sobriety.
A new organization, “Ironwood House San Angelo,” led by Autumn Brockman and Michelle Ybarra, was created in February, are now operating two homes in San Angelo: a men’s home and their new women’s home. The men’s home can house up to ten residents, and the women’s home up to a dozen.
Ironwood House welcomes men and women helped by the Journey Recovery Center of the Alcohol and Drug Awareness Center of the Concho Valley, and they are also Texas-certified to accept parolees.
According to the directors, residents are given support to regain their lives, find jobs, and rebuild their confidence as they become active members of the community.
House leaders staff the homes, support one another on this journey, and provide day-to-day guidance and practical help to program participants.
The initiative also engages with correctional facilities to communicate with inmates about the path to sobriety. Highlighting their mission statement, they emphasize, “At Ironwood House, we don’t just house people; we cultivate a legacy of belonging through durable design and unwavering support.”
The group is actively accepting donations of furniture and bedding to furnish the women’s facility. They are hoping for bunk beds, a washer, and a dryer.
