On the first day of filing, Gary Jenkins, owner of The Gospel American Network filed to run for Mayor of San Angelo. Jenkins is originally from Kansas City, Missouri, served in the United States Marine Corps and ran as an independent for County Judge in 2022. No other candidates have filed as of this date.
City Council Member Larry Miller (SMD 6) has confirmed he plans to run for reelection in May. Mayor Brenda Gunter, Council Members Tom Thompson (SMD 2) and Lucy Gonzalez (SMD 4) are ineligible to run again because of the term limits set out in the City Charter. This means that there will be three open seats during this May’s City Council election.
The filing period is open and runs through St. Valentine’s Day February 14. Persons interested in running for Mayor or City Council should contact the City Clerk’s office at (325) 657-4405.
