Organizers are hoping to set a world record on Saturday in downtown San Angelo, and they’ve put out a call seeking more than 200 area residents to join in an En Plein Air Texas painting event.

The San Angelo Museum of Fine Arts is issuing the call to action, encouraging families, students, artists, first-time painters, and anyone curious to join this unique and fun event.

Participants will check in at 9 a.m. Saturday, and paint outdoors from 10 a.m. to noon, when they will turn in their work and attend an awards ceremony at 1 p.m.

Supplies will be available, and no painting experience is required. Cash prizes will be awarded to the winners!

They are encouraging families, students, artists, first-time painters, and anyone curious to participate.

Today, 30 local high school students are participating in an invite-only workshop, learning directly from EPAT’s four Ranch Fellowship Artists, and their completed works will be showcased during the opening events. Each piece will be offered for $100, with proceeds going to the student.

The public is invited to three free EPAT events this week:

Thursday, Oct. 22

  • Spirit of the Ranch Exhibition Opening & Art Sale at SAMFA, 5-8 p.m.
Friday, Oct. 23
  • Ranch Fellowship Artists Panel Discussion at SAMFA, 6-8 p.m.
Saturday, Oct. 24
  • Community Paint-Out in downtown San Angelo, 8 a.m. to 2 p.m.

The San Angelo Museum of Fine Arts is located at 1 Love Street, near the intersection of Oakes and Bird streets.
