San Angelo Elks hosted a special lunch for military veterans and their families on Saturday, continuing the tradition started 14 years ago.
Veteran families were served at Elks Lodge 1880 on South Chadbourne Street, where the lunch was pulled pork, pinto beans, potato salad and all the fixings, prepared by club members and their families.

Lodge President Brent Koester said the local organization provides lunches to veterans and military on special occasions such as Veterans Day, and the military’s “Home Away from Home” event.
Additionally, the club serves up a breakfast for veterans on the third Saturday of every month.

According to Koester San Angelo Elks have raised $4.5 million in donations, which has been reinvested into the community through scholarships and grants.

The lodge also assists veterans receiving care at West Texas Rehabilitation Center. Additionally, local lodge members support the State Elks Organization’s Camp for Children with Special Needs.
