The San Angelo Chamber of Commerce board unexpectedly announced that president and CEO Steve Ahlenius is no longer with the organization effective immediately. Ahlenius was hired about two years ago.

“This is the right time for new leadership,” San Angelo Chamber of Commerce Board Chair-Elect Dean Munn said in a news release Thursday afternoon. “On behalf of the Board, we thank Steve Ahlenius for his service to the Chamber and wish him well in future endeavors. The Board has determined this is the right time for new leadership as we look ahead to the Chamber’s next chapter.”

The Chamber removed Mr. Ahlenius’s photo and information from its website, and the news release said Jeremy Bartz, vice president of destination marketing is serving as acting president and CEO “to ensure continuity for chamber members and programs.”

According to the news release, the board of directors will share updates on the leadership search as it moves forward.
