Although a recent report rated Texas as the second-worst state to live in, Texas continues to lead the nation in employment.
While the state ranked near the top of CNBC’s list of America’s worst states, it also landed in the top five on the network’s annual rankings of America’s top states for business, with many areas of the state continuing to have local unemployment rates lower than the national average.
The Texas Workforce Commission reports that San Angelo has the second-lowest unemployment rate in the state, at 3.9 percent, just behind Midland with 3.6 percent.
According to the report, Texas added 43,400 nonfarm jobs in June, reaching a total of 14,469,600 positions.
So far this year, the state added 177,900 jobs for an annual growth rate of 1.2 percent, outpacing the national growth rate nearly one percentage point. The seasonally adjusted unemployment rate in Texas registered at 4.4 percent.
The recent report from CNBC, calculating state rankings, pointed to several major hurdles that drag down the quality of life in Texas, including poor healthcare access, as Texas has the highest rate of uninsured residents in the nation at 16.7 percent, and ranks last in primary care physicians per capita.
A lack of worker protections were also cited as the state scored low on overall worker rights and legal inclusivity.
