En Plein Air Texas

Stunning landscape paintings from four En Plein Air Texas artists will be revealed at a San Angelo Museum of Fine Arts exhibition and art sale later this month, as the “Spirit of the Ranch 2026,” debuts with paintings by Natalia Nosyk, Nancy Tankersley, Richie Vios, and Beth Bathe.

According to organizers, the four artists deeply immersed themselves in the vibrant ranch life of West Texas, spending three weeks at a working ranch. During their extended residency, they sought to capture the landscape’s essence by creating artwork directly inspired by their surroundings as they explored the ranch’s diverse landscape, using its beauty to inspire their art.

The paintings produced during the residency culminate in Spirit of the Ranch, a curated exhibition and sale presented each fall at the San Angelo Museum of Fine Arts, celebrating the enduring tradition of plein air painting while supporting its future.

The event culminates in the sale of this year’s En Plein Air Texas Ranch Fellowship.

“The Spirit of the Ranch” opening and art sale will be held Thursday, Oct. 22, from 5-8 p.m at the San Angelo Museum of Fine Arts, and additional ranch paintings by the Fellowship Artists will be available for purchase in the Grand Hall until Oct. 25, along with works by local high school students.

On Friday, Oct. 23, the exhibition and Grand Hall sale will run from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

From 6-8 p.m., the four Ranch Fellowship Artists will hold a panel discussion about their experiences on the ranches, moderated by Tim Newton, a former juror for En Plein Air Texas.
