School Closures On SAISD’s Agenda Monday

Board will begin discussing additional elementary closures at pre-agenda meeting tomorrow.

The San Angelo Independent School District (SAISD) Board of Trustees will discuss school closures and demolition of Rio Vista Elementary Monday evening. January 12, 2026.

The Board meets in the Trustees Board Room on the second floor of the SAISD Administration Building at 1621 University San Angelo, Texas. The meeting begins at 5:30 p.m.

Items on the agenda for discussion include the construction update, and a long range planning update from Superintendent Dr. Chris Moran.

The Board will also discuss the proposed agenda for its regular board meeting on January 20, 2026. The action items for the regular meeting that will be discussed tonight include:

  • Identifying elementary campuses for closure.
  • Phase II of the addition to McGill Elementary School.
  • Asbestos abatement and demolition of Rio Vista Elementary.
  • Sanctioning Perla Garcia by revoking her Educator’s Certificate for contract abandonment.

While technically a pre-agenda workshop, the way the SAISD handles their meetings most of the discussion and debate on the agenda items takes place at the pre-agenda meeting. The regular meeting on January 20, 2026 will be mostly a recap of the discussion from the pre-agenda meeting.

Citizens who wish to be informed about any of the agenda items are encourage to attend the pre-agenda meeting and not wait until the regular meeting.

If you wish to make public comment you must sign up for comment before the meeting. So, be sure to get their early to sign up.

Also, the board does not take public comment during the meeting when an item is being discussed. All public comments must be made at the beginning of the meeting before any agenda items have been called for discussion.
