San Angelo State Park officials are warning visitors that the park is within an infested zone for the New World Screwworm. It is one of two state parks within an Infestation zone. Currently the other state park is Falcon State Park in south Texas in Starr and Zapata counties.
They are advising park guests to take precautions to protect against the screwworm in animals. They say that horses need to be inspected before leaving the park and that pets should be checked daily for scratches, cuts, wounds, or any signs of infestation.
Parks officials say horses must be inspected before leaving the park. Visitors planning to bring horses should call park headquarters at 325-494-4757 at least 24 hours in advance to schedule an inspection and learn about requirements.
