DECISION 2026

This article represents the two party chairs – Republican and Democrat – of Tom Green County giving their final arguments for why you should vote their way today, on Election Day.

Read their arguments and let us know what your closing thoughts on the election: on Facebook or in the comments down below, what have you been thinking about in these last few weeks?

First: Republican Party Chair Trey Holmes

“This is the most important election of our lifetime.” We’ve all heard it. Some of us have even said it. Why? Because each election is the most important election. When you cast your vote, you’re giving the people you elect power to interpret existing laws, pass new ones, and create policies that determine what your life, the lives of those around you, and your children’s lives will look like.

So why vote Republican?

Jeff Chandler Law

Why not vote for the party that opposed slavery?

Why not vote for the party that fought to keep this country together through a civil war?

Why not vote for the party that helped champion civil rights?

Why not vote for the party founded on constitutional principles?

Why not vote for the party that believes all people are equal?

Why not vote for the party that believes in truth and morality?

Why not vote for the party that protects the innocent?

Why not vote for the party that stands for religious liberty?

Why not vote for the party that believes individuals have the right to live their lives as they see fit?

Why not vote for the party that believes in private property rights?

Why not vote for the party that believes you have the right to defend yourself against tyrants large and small?

Why not vote for the party that believes in limited government?

Why not vote for the party that fought (and still fights) against excessive taxation?

Why not vote for the party that believes in fiscal responsibility?

Why not vote for the party that has championed policies that promote economic prosperity for all people?

Why not vote for the party that believes in freedom?

Why not vote for the party that believes in the United States of America?

Do Republicans always get it right? Of course not. Neither do other parties. What matters is what a party stands for, what it actually does, and whether its leaders work to fix things when they get them wrong.

Because the real question isn’t, “Why vote Republican?” The real question is, “Why wouldn’t you vote Republican?”

Second: Democratic Party Chair Jon Mark Hogg

Why should you vote Democratic this election? Three words.

“END THE ABSURDITY.”

The last ten years or more we have all suffered through one of the strangest periods in American political history.

It is one thing to have bad government. It is something else for it to be completely absurd.

This is not about Democratic vs. Republican. It is about rejecting the politics of the absurd.

There is a lot of absurdity I can talk about, but I do not have that kind of time. I will use just one example.

The most corrupt attorney general in Texas history is his party’s nominee to be our next U.S. Senator.

Forget about the indictments for securities fraud. He escaped conviction, and removal from office in the Texas Senate through the financial corruption of our Governor, Lt. Governor and the Texas Senate Majority.

Everyone knows he was guilty because he has since confessed to it in court. Everyone knows money changed hands to make it happen. Our corruption is out in the open these days without hint of hypocrisy.

Yet his party nominated him anyway over a senior, well respected incumbent Senator in leadership with years of seniority in the Senate. His seniority would have been a great help to Texas.

But MAGA sent him packing.

And why did they do that? Because Donald Trump; for his own naked, egotistical reasons told them to.

Paxton’s candidacy gets even more absurd.

Elon Musk alone has paid over $200 Million to buy the U.S. Senate seat for him. To show you how absurd that is, Elon Musk is trying to buy a Senator for more than double what the entire State of Texas spends on public education in a year.

Yet we swallow it, and don’t even belch.

I could go on and on up and down the ballot –t he corruption, the surveillance police state Abbott has helped Donald Trump create, data centers and the free for all on our land, water and environment, inflation, wars, foreign policy debacles.

It is all so absurd.;

This election it is time that the adults in the room put their foot down.

Re-elect none of them.

— From Jon Mark Hogg, Tom Green County Democratic Party Chair
