United Way of the Concho Valley officials say a former employee allegedly misused the organization’s resources, and an investigation is underway.
In a news release late Wednesday, officials said, “United Way of the Concho Valley today confirmed that it has taken decisive action following awareness of allegations involving the misuse of organizational resources by a former employee.”
According to the news bulletin, the issue was identified through internal processes, prompting immediate action to protect operations and donor funds leading to the employee’s separation from the organization. The matter has been reported to the authorities, and the United Way is fully cooperating with law enforcement in an ongoing investigation.
“Our responsibility to this community is something we take very seriously,” said Todd Smith, chair of the UWCV board of directors. “As soon as concerns were brought to our attention, the board moved quickly to address the situation, safeguard resources, and begin a thorough review.”
At this time, the organization believes the alleged activity to be isolated to a single individual.
United Way leadership confirmed that services and funding for partner agencies will continue without interruption, ensuring ongoing support for individuals and families in the Concho Valley.
Due to the legal and personnel considerations involved, further details are currently limited.
“This situation does not reflect the values of our organization or the dedication of our staff, board, volunteers, partner agencies, and donors,” Smith said. “We remain focused on accountability, integrity, and serving this community.”

According to the organization’s website, as of June 24, Ashley Ammons was no longer listed as president and CEO.
According to the most recent IRS Form 990 from the organization for 2023, the United Way of the Concho Valley is organized around a 28-member board, employing three people who directed an estimated cadre of 300 volunteers.
The UWCV reported gross receipts of $1,063,136 with contributions and grants totaling $848,737, and net assets and fund balances of $3,301,299.
Employee compensation was listed at $255,616 for the three employees.
