The plan to replace a 58-year-old San Angelo ISD campus got the green light this week, as SAISD trustees voted unanimously to approve a $103.7 million guaranteed maximum price to build a new Glenn Middle School.
According to a news release from the district, the contract was awarded to Lee Lewis Construction, and the project currently is running $5 million under SAISD’s Bond 2025 Program budget.
School to Occupy Same Site
The new campus will be located at the current site and will incorporate several modern features, along with expanded spaces for classrooms and extracurricular programs. The entire project is projected to take more than two years to complete.
According to district officials, the move has been a long time coming, as the Glenn campus is overcrowded with more than 1,250 students, making it the largest student body in the district, and putting it outside of TEA classroom standards.
The comprehensive facilities study found that Glenn Middle School required significant plumbing, HVAC, and electrical repairs, and revealed that renovations to the current school would cost taxpayers more than building a new facility.
