A legendary rural Texas AM radio station signed off for what the owner believed was the last time in early June, after 79 years on the air. KRUN-AM 1400, located in the Runnels County seat of Ballinger, suffered severe damage from heavy May storms, which knocked the station off the air.
After the storm, the owner concluded that recovery and resumption of operations were impossible.
The station received a significant amount of donations and support, and its staff credited their recovery to these contributions.“the incredible support of our community, local businesses, organizations and loyal listeners.”
On July 2, KRUN-AM announced that it will bring back its livestreams and on-air broadcasts. The station said in a flyer that streaming will start again in mid-July, and on-air broadcasting will resume around August 1.
The AM station serves a large rural area of west central Texas and broadcasts live local news, sports and community information which many feel is a vital service to the region.
