A San Angelo City Council member’s recall election date may be set by the City Council during their upcoming meeting on Tuesday.
Section C of the regular agenda calls for City Clerk Heather Stastny to present the recall petition filed on July 15, about SMD 3 Council Member Harry Thomas.
At the meeting, Stastny will confirm that the petition meets the qualifications for a recall election under Section 48 of the City Charter.
The next item will have the council members considering a resolution calling for the Special Election for November 3, 2026, for the purpose of determining whether Council Member Harold “Harry” Thomas, Single Member District 3, should be recalled from office, providing for the holding of an election to be administered by the Tom Green County Election Office, and authorizing the City Manager to negotiate and execute all related documents.
The San Angelo Data Center Citizen Coalition, a local group against data centers, also organized a recall effort to remove Mayor Tom Thompson. They also filed an affidavit and have started a petition to recall SMD2 Councilmember Joe Self.
The recall effort was initiated over proposed data center development, specifically the Skybox-Emergent facility in northeastern San Angelo.
The San Angelo City Council will meet at 8:30 a.m. Tuesday, Aug. 4, at the McNease Convention Center, 501 Rio Concho Drive. The meeting is open to the public and will be streamed live to the City’s YouTube channel and on SATV (Optimum channel 17). Public comment can be made in person at the meeting.
