The San Angelo Fire Marshal’s Office is asking for help from city residents to improve fire safety in the community. The organization is asking residents to complete and submit an online survey.

City Council approved a series of infrastructure, public safety, and housing measures during its regular meeting Tuesday, including authorizing a federal grant application for new firefighter breathing equipment, supporting infrastructure improvements tied to future residential growth, and advancing the city’s 2026 federal housing plan.
In San Angelo: Animal Services received some needed relief this week: city council discussed and passed along two measures on Tuesday that will help the shelter.
First, a donation of flea and tick prevention medication valued at $90,000 dollars; and an increase to the Animal Services budget to meet higher-than-expected operational needs, approving an extra $60,883 for animal medical expenses.
Both the Mayor and Valenzuela’s remarks were twinged with a bit of emotion, and it was obvious that many city councilors and city staffers were emotional about the departure as well. Valenzuela says that after taking some time off for travel, he and his wife plan to remain in San Angelo.
Daniel Valenzuela was hired as city manager in 2012, making him one of the longest serving city managers in the cities history. Since that time he has served alongside four mayors; Alvin New, Dwain Morrison, Brenda Gunter, and Tom Thompson, and many more city councilors, overseeing several major changes and modernizations to the city.

Volunteers with West Texas Retired Senior Volunteer Program (RSVP) in the Concho Valley awoke on the morning of June 19 to an email advising them that the program was coming to an end, effective July 1, and that their final day of West Texas RSVP service would be June 30.
Phillip “Phil” Urrutia will take up city manager position Aug. 1.
