Two local groups will hold a conference aimed at getting families and youth involved in mental and physical health conversations and programs, this Friday at the Tom Green County Central Library.
From their release: Partners Resource Network and Youth Empowerment in Action invite families, youth self-advocates, disability professionals, and community members to attend Perspectives 2026: Seeing Beyond the Diagnosis, a free conference taking place Friday, September 18, 2026, at the Tom Green County Library in San Angelo.
The conference will begin at 9:30 a.m. and will provide an opportunity for participants to learn, connect with resources, and hear from presenters on topics that support individuals with disabilities and their families. Lunch will be provided, and door prizes will be available.
A special highlight of the event will be the lunch keynote featuring teens from Youth Empowerment in Action. Through a youth-led panel, YEA teens will share their perspectives and lived experiences, giving attendees the opportunity to hear directly from young people about confidence, community connection, inclusion, and the importance of having a meaningful voice in conversations that affect their lives.
“Perspectives 2026 is about helping families see beyond a diagnosis and recognize the strengths, needs, and possibilities of each individual,” said Jamie Thomas, Regional Coordinator with Partners Resource Network. “We want families to leave feeling more informed, more connected, and less alone.”
The event is specifically designed for parents, family members, youth self-advocates, disability professionals, educators, service providers, and community members who want to learn more and get involved.
Stipend applications are encouraged. Approved stipends may help with gas or applied toward childcare costs for those who attend in person and will be paid through a Visa gift card. A virtual attendance option is also available for those who are unable to attend in person.
