LOCAL ART
Graphic designers, party planners (and almost everybody else) seem to be growing weary from the glut of AI manufactured posters, flyers, and maps that have dominated local social media for many months now.
One local artist is seeking to make new connections with real artists in San Angelo, and convince people to skip the Chat GPT.

“I am interested in keeping the ‘visual arts capital of Texas’ a human-made visual arts capital,” says Zoe Flores in a quick phone interview with the Concho Observer.
Zoe specializes in many mediums, including skateboard design and comic art — and is looking to create a website that will reconnect people with the artists who have traditionally helped make flyers and promotional materials; or really any kind of visual illustration someone might need, acting as a kind of reference manual for human artists.
Zoe says that like a lot of artists, or anyone who helps out with events, they have been asked to help out with flyers before; and says that these days a human made flyer might be a big selling point.
“I am part of many groups for local events, and so often you see this weird font, it’s all generic information,” says Zoe.
“It’s gotten to the point where if I see a human made flyer I am far more likely to actually read what’s on it. Because my brain has just programmed so I scroll past anything that looks like AI.”

Zoe says that there’s a name for the font: “Plague GPT”
“It’s because it’s a plague on visual traffic on the internet.”
Zoe says that the San Angelo Art Alliance is accepting names to be added onto the registry, for anyone with graphic design or capability. But notes that many people do graphic design for groups they are a part of on a frequent basis, but do not call themselves such. They shouldn’t hesitate to apply either.
“I would love for it to be like an online store where you can scroll through a series of thumbnails for each artist, and then they can select which style suits them — informational flyers, web designers, any kind of graphic design service they offer would be listed here.”
