The San Angelo City Council has picked three candidates to consider for the job of city manager. The finalists are:
- Jerry Hendrix, formerly the interim city manager and assistant city manager in Kyle
- Jud Rex, who was the city manager in Garland
- Phillip Urrutia, who currently serves as assistant city manager in Garland.
There will be a community event where residents can meet the finalists on Tuesday, May 26, at 5:30 p.m. at the McNease Convention Center, 501 Rio Concho Drive.
During the event, each candidate will introduce themselves and have the chance to talk with citizens.
The next day, Wednesday, May 27, the candidates will be interviewed by three different groups: members of the City Council, city department heads, and community leaders. After these interviews, the city council will make the final choice for who will be the new city manager.
The city council has hired Mosaic Public Partners to assist with finding the new city manager.
Mosaic reviewed 29 potential candidates, and a small group from the Council selected six of them. The full Council then decided on the final three candidates. The current city manager, Daniel Valenzuela, will retire on October 31 after serving San Angelo for 14 years.
