OBITUARY

Sam G. Lara, age 87, went to be with the Lord on Sunday January 18th, 2026, at his residence. He was born to Reverend Silviano and Soledad Lara on October 4th, 1938, in Lubbock.

Sam served in the Army where he was stationed in Maryland and Korea. After his service he came back to Menard to marry his sweetheart Emma Valdez. They were married on November 23, 1962. They just celebrated their 63rd anniversary. They had three children Grace, Sam, and Randy.

Sam was devoted to his faith and family. He loved to read and be around his family, especially his grandchildren. He is survived by his wife Emma Lara, one daughter Grace Garza of Menard, and two sons Sam Lara III of Menard, and Randy Lara of Austin. One brother, Eleazer Lara of Tennessee. His grandchildren Bryanna Garza of San Angelo, Regina Barrera of Pflugerville, and Bryan Garza of Menard and several great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents Rev. Silviano and Soledad Lara, one sister Nina Scoles and his great granddaughter Zarah Grace Lynne Garza. Graveside service only will be at Garden of Memories in Menard on Thursday January 22nd at 11 a.m.

Pallbearers will be Robert Garza, Randy Lara, Ray Williamson, Alex Valdez, Micheal Valdez and Larry Zapata.

The family would like to thank Hospice from San Angelo for their kindness and wonderful care they gave Sam.
