ANIMAL CARE
San Angelo has a new mobile pet grooming business – Macy’s Mutts. But owner Macy Wilkinson isn’t just serving dog owners. She is eager to offer small mammal and exotic pet grooming as well.
Macy started her animal care career in pet clinics, where she saw firsthand the growing need for mobile services – especially for senior and exotic animals.

“A lot of the parrots we saw were coming in from very far away, and they would always be really stressed, which is dangerous when it comes to birds,” she said. “The reason I offer to go to people’s homes is to keep the birds more comfortable and calm. It’s just a better experience overall – and safer.”
As for the senior dogs, Macy stressed the importance of keeping the pet comfortable and avoiding unnecessary sedation, which can lead to stress for the pet owner and comes with risks of its own.
“I saw an opportunity that I could help owners get their dogs out of having to be put under for haircuts twice a year… and it just kind of grew from there.”
Macy makes it a priority to ensure that each member of her team is trained on pet CPR and first aid, and her goal is to have each groomer continue their education by at least twenty hours every year to avoid complacency.
“Especially in Texas, where there aren’t certifications or licenses you have to have to be a groomer, it’s important.”
When she’s not grooming for her customers, Macy enjoys the occasional “creative grooming” on her own pets and fostering rescued parrots who are on their way to their forever home.

A true animal lover, Macy herself owns several, including four ferrets, a bearded dragon, a hamster, two cats, two dogs, and some fish.
Beyond the business, she is on a mission to connect with others.
“We would love to meet a bunch of new people,” she said. “We’re really trying to create a little community here.”
