Again, local efforts to revitalize our urban center have garnered accreditation from the Main Street America program for Downtown San Angelo Inc., inspiring a vision for further business growth in that area.
On Monday, Downtown San Angelo Inc. announced the 2026 accreditation for meeting rigorous performance standards set by Main Street America.
We are proud to announce that Downtown San Angelo has once again received Main Street Accreditation! This achievement would not be possible without the support of our business owners, property owners, volunteers, partners, board members, and community members who believe in the future of downtown. Thank you for helping make Downtown San Angelo a vibrant place to live, work, shop, and explore.
Together, we are building on our successes and creating an even stronger downtown for generations to come.
About Main Street America
Each year, Main Street America honors programs dedicated to revitalizing the downtown areas of America through its “Main Street Approach.”
Downtown San Angelo is one of 838 nationally recognized accredited Main Street America organizations forming a network of more than 1,600 communities working toward positive commercial transformation efforts.
San Angelo’s performance was evaluated by the organization’s personnel and board of directors, as well as by Downtown San Angelo, Inc., which partners with Main Street America to identify local programs that meet national evaluation standards. These standards provide the Main Street America network with a framework for assessing progress, recognizing strengths, and identifying strategies to advance Main Street programs.
To achieve Accredited status from Main Street America, communities must demonstrate strong outcomes in six areas: community commitment, inclusive leadership, diverse funding, strategic programming, preservation-based development, and measurable impact.
Downtown San Angelo is thriving, with more than $10 million in reinvestment and eight new businesses opening each year, enhancing its appeal to residents and visitors.
In 2025, Downtown San Angelo celebrated key achievements, including the colorful Celebrating Downtown Banner Project and the grand opening of the Roosevelt Lofts. This revitalized building had been vacant for over 30 years, bringing new life and investment to the area.
