CITY PLANNING COMMISISON

During a Monday meeting, the City of San Angelo Planning Commission will consider a permit to convert a long-time southwest-side hotel into apartments.

Owners of the Rodeway Inn at 2502 West Loop 306 are seeking a conditional use permit for the property Monday, Feb. 23.

The hotel owner, RP Hospitality LLC, wants to transform the hotel into apartments.

City staff evaluated six factors to decide if the permit is appropriate for the property, which included minimized impacts, zoning consistency, compatibility with the surrounding area, effects on the environment, community need, and development patterns.

According to their report, no adverse effects were found, but the proposal was not without opposition.

Of the 39 notices sent to surrounding property owners, none were returned in favor of the project, and 10 were opposed from nearby residents concerned about of adding permanent residents to the neighborhood.

According to agenda information, city staff recommends approval with two conditions: the applicant must obtain all necessary building permits, and any exterior lighting must be directed downward to minimize glare on surrounding properties.

The planning commission meeting will be held at 9 a.m. Monday in the East Mezzanine of City Hall, 72 W. College Ave. downtown.
