San Angelo Police officers will likely receive pay adjustments after City Council members vote on proposed salary changes next week. The Council will hold its first meeting of the new 2027 Fiscal year on Tuesday, October 6.
The Council will vote on a first reading and public hearing of an ordinance revising the Police Department pay plan schedule presented by Finance Director Jonathan Flores.
This proposed amendment includes salaries approved by Council in the new budget, with recruit pay for a new officer set at $65,574, with basic officer pay at $71,115. The highest rank listed in the agenda packet is assistant chief with a salary of $141,918.
To distinguish position responsibilities and job duties, the city staff recommends increasing the deputy chief’s salary to $131,949 annually, and the assistant chief’s salary to $144,756. According to city staff, the 2-percent pay adjustment will create an average separation of approximately 8 percent between the ranks.
Officials say the amended scale only updates the Police Salary Schedule in the ordinance, with monies currently budgeted in the General Fund.
During the meeting, the Council will also consider a resolution to adopt the Northeast Sector Master Plan and consider authorizing the allocation of Fiscal Year 2027 Hotel Occupancy Tax funds for arts and historic preservation programs.
Several other action consent items on their agenda involve zone changes.
The City Council meeting is set for 8:30 a.m. Tuesday, Oct. 6, at McNease Convention Center, 501 Rio Concho Drive.
