Members of the San Angelo City Council held an evening meeting on Tuesday to discuss aspects of establishing a data center in northeast San Angelo. The main focus of their discussion was the physical design guidelines and the zoning conditional-use processes required for the facility.
During the public comment portion of the meeting, several members of the public voiced their concerns about potential excessive water and electricity usage, a lack of access to officials with Skybox, or the developer.
Council members then discussed the physical aspects of the building’s location, including setbacks, buffers, parking, fences, lighting, building elevation, and sidewalks as part of the discussion-only agenda item.
City planners have recommended that the council proceed with a Conditional Use process. With a zone change, the city will issue notices to nearby landowners about the proposed zoning change.
No vote was taken on the plan.
A proposal to the Planning Commission is slated for March 16, which could be followed by a city council approval on March 17, with a second reading for approval during the April 7 City Council meeting.
