Angelo State University reports that a 15-year veteran professor, Dr. Bruce Bechtol Jr., has been appointed a Distinguished Fellow in the Faculty of Humanities at The Hebrew University of Jerusalem, the top-ranked University in Israel.

Bechtol is a member of ASU’s security studies faculty. After spending time in Israel researching for the ASU program, he is overseeing the online Master of Science in Global Security Studies program. He is a recognized expert on North Korean military and political issues, known internationally for his insights and analysis.

Bechtol received a letter from Dr. Oron Shagir, the rector of the Hebrew University of Jerusalem, notifying him of the honor. He wrote: “This invitation reflects your exceptional contributions to and your illustrious career in the field of East Asian and Middle East Studies. We believe that your affiliation with our University will significantly enhance our efforts to maintain an international and dynamic academic environment, especially during these challenging times.”

Dr. Bechol has given presentations at professional and human rights conferences, addressed United Nations committees, and acted as a foreign policy advisor to U.S. presidential candidates.
