A San Angelo memorial service will mark a quarter-century since the terrorist attacks on the country in 2001.
The San Angelo Police and Fire departments, Tom Green County Sheriff’s Office, and Goodfellow Air Force Base are hosting a public memorial service at 9:30 a.m. Friday, Sept. 11, at the City’s 9/11 monument near Celebration Bridge along the Concho River, adjacent to the San Angelo Museum of Fine Arts, at 1 Love St.
All are invited to attend.
Before the service begins, ASU string quartet will be playing music as notifications follow the timeline of events along the East Coast that morning.

There will then be a moment of silence, and the service will begin.
During the ceremony there will be a Presentation of Colors, the National Anthem, Recognition of Honored Guests, a Wreath Laying Ceremony and 21 Gun Salute, Taps and Special Acknowledgements. The Keynote Speaker at the remembrance will be Colonel Matthew A. Norton, the Commander of the 17th Training Wing at Goodfellow Air Force Base.
San Angelo is one of the few Texas memorials with a piece of steel from Ground Zero, donated by the Velez family in 2017. The 9/11 memorial was dedicated on September 8, 2003, to honor those who lost their lives in the attacks.
