Veribest Teacher Killed in Morning Crash

A 48-year-old San Angelo area woman was killed in a vehicle accident on Wednesday morning while she was stopped behind a school bus at a railroad crossing in Northeast San Angelo. A 21-year-old Brady resident was also injured. According to DPS, the accident occurred around 7:23 a.m. at the intersection of U.S. Highway 277 and Old Ballinger Highway, which is a designated railroad crossing.

A preliminary investigation shows that a school bus was stopped at the railroad crossing as required by law.

According to law enforcement, a GMC Acadia, traveling southbound on U.S. 277, was two vehicles behind the bus and also stopped when a Chevrolet Silverado pickup, also southbound on U.S. 277, collided with the stopped Acadia from behind.

The driver of the Acadia, Lee Ann Cauley, was pronounced dead at the scene. She was a was a teacher at Veribest ISD.

She was found to be wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash.

The driver of the Silverado, a 21-year-old Brady resident was transported to Shannon Medical Center with minor injuries.
