The San Angelo City Council will hold its next regular meeting on Tuesday May 6. There it will consider a proposed $209,045.53 contract for Concho River wayfinding signage.
The proposed signs were designed by local architect Craig Kinney and graphic arts students at Angelo State University.
The signs include maps with “You Are Here” indicators at Santa Fe Park, Bart DeWitt Park, and Gazebo Garden, as well as directional and informational signs. Signs will have concrete bases, brushed aluminum letters, and weather-resistant polyurethane. Installation is expected to begin later this spring.
The council will vote on whether to award the sign contract to Blink Marketing, Inc. (DBA Blink Signs). Blink was the lowest qualified bidder. Although a local company also submitted a bid, it exceeded the 5-percent threshold allowed for local preference.
Concho River Legacy Trail Project
The council will also discuss the proposed “Concho River Legacy Trail” project. This project would install a series of sculptures depicting the history of the Concho Valley. City staff is requesting approval to support private fundraising for the sculptures, and to issue a Request for Proposals (RFP) for re-envisioning landscape plans along the Concho River and Santa Fe Park.
The Public Art Commission has recommended approval of the concept. No city funds will be used for development or maintenance. Private fundraisers have pledged to raise the full cost of the sculptures, as well as an endowment for long-term maintenance.
