The Concho Observer contacted San Angelo Independent School District looking into serious allegations made by Danny Cardenas via two Facebook posts on the night of Oct. 28.
The first stated:
I am sharing this information. As an employee at Lamar Elementary, working with special needs students, I have observed several concerning incidents. The principal seems to be covering up for a teacher who mistreats students, including physical force. Also, an aide in my class has spanked a nonverbal student, and no action was taken.
The second post states:
A teacher at Holiman Elementary School in the San Angelo Independent School District is accused of striking a kindergartner with a ruler on the mouth. It is also alleged that the Superintendent is trying to cover up the incident, and there are reports of two children being assaulted by the same teacher.
The Observer requested any information about these allegations, including whether they were being treated as credible, and if they are being investigated via email.
According to a statement released by SAISD Community Relations Director Sun Cha Friday afternoon:
San Angelo ISD takes all reports related to student safety and conduct very seriously. The district is aware of allegations regarding two separate incidents involving staff and students. The district is reviewing the situations in accordance with established policies and state law. Student safety and well-being are our highest priorities, and we remain committed to handling all matters responsibly and appropriately.
Cardenas was contacted for commend but did not respond.
Daniel Cardenas served multiple terms on the San Angelo City Council beginning in the 1980s and served as an SAISD trustee for three years.
As this is a developing story, more information will be added as it is received.
