Christy and Shawn Neu of Cooke County, Texas are searching for whoever killed and decapitated their bison, named “Louisiana.”

In November 2025, the couple found the animal shot and its head removed – a shocking discovery just seven months after they’d obtained the bison as a pet.

Sheriff Ray Sappington of the Cooke County Sheriff’s Office reported the crime took place Nov. 23- 26. Heavy rain on the night of the crime likely washed away potential evidence. He noted that this is the first time his office has investigated a crime like this in his five years as sheriff.

Because of the weight of the bison’s head and the distance it was carried, Sappington believes multiple people were likely involved in the crime.

There is currently a reward of $4,250 being offered for any information leading to an arrest.

Tips can be reported by calling 940-665-3471 or sending an anonymous message to tips@co.cooke.tx.us.

Cooke Co. is situated on Red River creating the border between Texas and Oklahoma. The town of Lindsay is located about 1.5 hours north of Dallas or Fort Worth.
