OBITUARY

Raymunda “Rae” Manabat Flannery, 87, passed away surrounded by loving family on December 12, in San Angelo.

Mrs. Rae Flannery was born September 26, 1938 in Mabalacat, Philippines to Raymundo and Brigida Manabat.

There, Rae attended Republic Central College, eventually starting her career at Clark Air Force Base, outside Angeles City, Philippines. Here she met her future husband. Rae married John Flannery on May 22, 1966 in Angeles City.

As a military family, they became residents of San Angelo in 1978. Rae worked for GTE and later Verizon as a data entry specialist from 1980, until retiring in 2016. Rae became a naturalized United States citizen in 1980

Always active in her religion, Rae was a member of Our Lady of Peace Catholic Church at Goodfellow Air Force Base and of the Catholic Daughters of the Americas organization. Her travels to the Holy Land and spiritual sanctuaries such as Fatima, Lourdes and Medjugorje offered her a deeper connection with God and Holy Mother Mary.

Known for her generosity and open heart, she never met a stranger. One of many way she expressed this was the delicious feasts she would prepare, especially emphasizing Filipino dishes.

Rae is survived by her daughter, Eileen Garcia and husband Alex of San Angelo; her son, Jerry Flannery and wife Kari of Billings, MT; a sister, Erlinda Bautista and husband Ben of Appleton, WI; three grandchildren, Breonna Flannery and fiance Travis Dewes, John Flannery and wife Julia all of Rapid City, SD, and Aedan Flannery of Billings, MT; great-grandchildren Vera Flannery and Sonny Flannery of Rapid City. Dear cousins Joe and Lou Castro, Marites and Vic Viado, Carmelita Rankin and numerous nieces and nephews in the Philippines and Ireland. Rae was preceded in death by her husband John on July 30, 1994, as well as her parents, three sisters, Ruperta Manabat, Cresencia Valdes, and Ester Feliciano, and a brother, Regalado Manabat.

Public Viewing will be from 10 to 8 p.m. with the Rosary being prayed at 6 p.m. Friday, December 19, at Robert Massie Riverside Chapel. Mass will be at 1 p.m. Saturday, December 20, at the Cathedral of the Sacred Heart Catholic Church with Rev. James Ludwikoski, Rev. Kizito Okhuoya, and Msgr. Larry Droll, officiating. Burial will follow at Lawnhaven Memorial Gardens under the direction of Robert Massie Funeral Home.

The family wishes to express their heartfelt gratitude to Dr. Anderton and Dr. Nichols for the exceptional care and compassion they provided her and to close friends for their prayers, love and steadfast support through the years.
