CITY OF SAN ANGELO

Following our recent news about forthcoming personnel changes in San Angelo City Government, the city has provided an update detailing who will take over the two Assistant City Manager positions. In a January 13th release, officials announced that two longtime city administrators will be filling the roles. The positions held by Michael Dane and Rick Weiss will be filled by Tina Dierschke and Shane Kelton.

Dierschke has been the City’s finance director since 2013, managing the budget and overseeing the Finance Department’s four divisions. She coordinates the financial planning and monthly budget updates.

Kelton has devoted over 25 years to the City, recently directing Water Utilities, Operations, and Engineering Services. Before that, he was the Director of Operations, leading several citywide services.

Assistant City Manager Michael Dane retired on January 2nd. Assistant City Manager Rick Wiess will retire in the spring of 2027, during which time he will assist his successor and complete major projects to ensure a smooth leadership transition.

The assistants’ positions are not the only roles with changes in the works. Longtime City Manager Daniel Valenzuela announced early last fall that he would step down in October. The City Council and staff are reportedly seeking a recruiting firm to help find a replacement for Valenzuela, who has served as city manager for nearly 14 years.
