OBITUARY
Mary Beth Knight McBee of Brownwood, Texas, passed away peacefully on October 17, 2025, after bravely facing her second battle with cancer.
She was surrounded by her loving family and friends.
Mary was born on April 15, 1964, in Ballinger, Texas, to Jim and Joyce Knight.
A gifted and passionate artist, she loved growing plants, crafting, and making cookies and candies, which she generously shared with those around her. Mary had a deep appreciation for life’s simple pleasures and found joy in baking, cooking, and gathering family and friends-creating cherished memories that will last forever.
For more than 20 years, Mary owned and operated the Texas Bunkhouse and Cabins Lodge on Lake Brownwood before retiring.
On July 31, 1987, Mary married Philip McBee. Together, they enjoyed their blended family of six children, and were blessed with 33 grandchildren and greatgrandchildren — the true loves of her life.
Mary was preceded in death by her parents, Jim and Joyce Knight; her sister, Cindy Breeding; her brother, Jimmy Knight; and her dear friend, Rick Mooney.
She is survived by her devoted husband of 38 years, Philip; daughter Shawna Grantham and son Sterling Grantham and their families; stepchildren Kathy Hughes, Philip McBee, James McBee, and Laura Hermesmeyer and their families; Brothers David, Paul, Chris, and Joshua Knight.
Five grandsons she and Philip upraised, guided and molded into amazing young men. She was so very proud of “Her Boys”-Jeremy, Matthew, Hunter, Mason, and Kaden.
She also leaves behind her chosen sisters, Tammy Mooney and Caren Caples and their families, along with many nieces, nephews, cousins, and countless friends and loved ones.
The family wishes to express their heartfelt gratitude and appreciation to Hospice of San Angelo, Forgiven Ministries, and Pastor Russ Frasier for their care and support.
In honor of Mary’s love for cooking and bringing people together, the family will host a potluck dinner following the service. If you would like to join in celebrating her life, please bring your favorite dish or dessert and rejoice with us in her memory. We will gather for the potluck at the Bronte Recreation Center located at 350 Park Rd.
Service: 4-6 p.m. Monday, Oct. 27, at Shaffer Funeral Home in Bronte, 509 S. State St.
Funeral: 10 a.m. Tuesday, Oct. 28, at Central Baptist Church 324 S. Franklin St. with burial to follow at Fairview Cemetery.
