San Angelo is known for two things: visual art and sheep. Now, thanks to a colorful new exhibit, locals can take home both – with the Chicken Farm Art Center’s newest exhibit, “Flock, San Angelo”.
Ninety local artists came together to create this whimsical show, featuring more than 100 clay sheep crafted by clay artist and musician Herb Belofsky.

The artists decorated the small sheep with mixed media, each one bringing their own flare to the display. But’s about more than just art; it’s about community and connection. Herb considers the project to be a testament to creativity.
“The sheep are just the canvas,” he said. “The artists are the flock. This community of artists showed up.”

A silent auction will run for the sheep through December 6. Herb says proceeds will pay the artists and fund future art scholarships, through The Roger Allen Foundation and The Art Spirit collective.

“The idea is to raise money to pay teachers to give workshops that students can attend without charge. This supports the local artist/teacher professional while giving the art lessons to as many students as possible.”

To make the project more impactful, all artists whose sheep sell during the auction will be paid for their work.
