Last week Justice of the Peace for Precinct 4 Eddie Howard tendered his resignation to the Tom Green County Commissioners Court. Howard was first elected Justice of the Peace in 1994 and took office January 1, 1995. He has served in that office continuously for thirty years, and is a respected leader in the community and among Justices of the Peace across Texas.

The Tom Green County Commissioners Court will appoint a replacement to complete the remainder of his unexpired term through 2026 on January 7, 2025. Persons interested in being appointed should submit a letter of interest and a resume to the County Human Resources Department by January 3, 2025

The Texas Justice Court Training Center at https://www.tjctc.org/justices-of-the-peace.html says the basic qualifications for an elected JP are: “Texas resident for at least 12 months, District resident for at least 6 months, 18 years of age”

In order to get on the ballot, there are specific deadlines you must meet. Visit this website for more information. https://ballotpedia.org/How_to_run_for_office_in_Texas
