The International Water Lily Collection will host its annual Lilyfest from 9 a.m. to noon, Saturday, Sept. 20, at Civic League Park, 2 S. Park St.

Set among the sunken reflecting pools of the park, the festival has drawn attention from botanists around the country. And for the kids: Kona Ice snow cones, face painting, vendors, a DJ, bounce houses and art activities. The first 75 attendees will receive a free snow cone.

The collection featuring over 300 varieties of water lilies was built through the efforts of naturalists like Kenneth Landon, who passed in 2021. The story of how he tracked down the rare “Star of Mexico” variety is featured in this Texas Highways article from last month.
