There is no news reported out of Goodfellow AFB other than the hiring freeze for civilian employees remains in place. The Pentagon has not provided any further information about possible civilian layoffs. Base townhalls are canceled for the time being.
We reached out to Congressman Pfluger’s office for any information or statement the Congressman could provide. We received nothing from Rep. Pfluger, but did receive this response from his Communications Director Bethany Holden.
Rep. Pfluger will continue standing up for Goodfellow every single day as he has been, no matter what personnel decisions are made by the Executive Branch. The Executive Branch and the Pentagon are going to make personnel decisions for the military. We cannot speak on behalf of the Executive Branch, the Pentagon, or Goodfellow as to what decisions they will make, but we will always fight for the people of TX-11.
No other clarification was provided.
The statement seems to indicate that the Congressman is not going to attempt to intervene in any personnel decisions that may be made by the Pentagon regarding civilian employees at Goodfellow.
We asked if the Congressman’s office could provide any substantive information beyond this statement. In particular, information regarding a time frame for a decision and whether civilian employees at the base would need to be looking for a new job. No response was received to this request.
Monday, March 24, 2025, we emailed Ms. Holden again asking if we could expect a response to our latest question.
As of press time, no further response or information was received.
