Family and friends will join veterans from the San Angelo Fire Department to celebrate the graduation of eight recruits this week.
The class of cadets consists of Keoni Balcomb, Michael Cruz, Daniel Elliott, Wayne Hines, Ross Holcomb, Brycen Huffman, Cameron Johnson, and Riley Peterson.
The cadets train for about 16 months at the Departments Regional Training Center to be certified firefighters/paramedics. They first attend the Fire Academy, then progress to a full Paramedic Academy.
Trainees spend 40 hours a week receiving hands-on and classroom training with fire suppression, hazardous materials handling, and emergency medical training, as well as learning fire sciences and safety.
Upon completion of training, they are certified fire fighters and EMT’s, achieving certification from the Texas Commission on Fire Protection and Texas Department of State Health Services, after which they are assigned to local stations to gain first-hand experience.
The Recruit Class of 2026 Graduation Ceremony will be held at 3:30 p.m. Friday, Jan. 30, in the North Meeting Room of the McNease Convention Center, 501 Rio Concho Drive.
The ceremony is open to the public.
