TEXAS PRIMARIES
Two Texas Democrats are attempting to do what hasn’t been done in decades, as they meet for a debate hoping to represent Texas in the U.S. Senate.
No Democrat has won a statewide election in more than 30 years, but State Rep. James Talarico and U.S. Rep Jasmin Crockett are facing each other for the first time on debate stage Saturday afternoon.
The debate will highlight the candidates’ differing proposals and is being hosted by the Texas AFL-CIO during the union’s political convention in Georgetown.
Both Crockett and Talarico hope to face the future Republican senate nominee in November. Recent polling places Talarico between ahead of Crockett by several percentage points, although polling also suggests he trails in name recognition.
The debate will be broadcast live on KXAN+, on stations around the state, and on select social media at 2 p.m.
Early voting begins Feb. 17, just over three weeks from today, with the primary Election Day on March 3.
