The newest congressional redistricting map was released this morning in Austin. This version of the map is considerably more West Texas friendly than the previous one. But it shifts CD 11, presently held by August Pfluger (R) San Angelo, east to take in the lower part of Burnet County and a considerable piece of north Travis County.
Redistricting hearings in different parts of the state were completed yesterday. If, passed, what the electoral implications of this map will be for CD 11 and holding a West Texas based center of power in the district will have to be analyzed in depth.
Many commenters have raised concerns that redistricting may be a big risk for the GOP in the upcoming midterms based on the mood of the country. How that plays out for San Angelo’s Congressman remains to be seen.
